Agent Reliability / Field Evaluation Brief

William James

Hands-on systems operator, developer, and long-horizon AI user focused on identifying agent regressions, continuity failures, tool-routing problems, and operational reliability issues in real technical workflows.

What I Bring

  • 35+ years of Linux and systems administration experience.
  • Background in networking, Windows deployment, scripting, automation, and infrastructure troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on work with Proxmox, Linux containers, reverse proxies, VPNs, DNS, backups, web systems, and multi-host operations.
  • Programming and scripting experience including Python, Perl, PowerShell, shell, and web tooling.

Why My Usage Is Useful

  • I use AI agents for real, multi-hour technical work rather than isolated prompts.
  • I routinely work across several hosts, services, containers, networks, and stateful projects.
  • I notice continuity failures quickly because the work has concrete operational consequences.
  • I can distinguish likely model behavior problems from authentication, tooling, environment, or infrastructure failures.

What I Can Evaluate

How I Would Turn Failures Into Useful Evals

1. CaptureRecord the exact task, environment, model/session, time, expected result, and observed behavior.
2. ClassifySeparate memory/context, reasoning, tool-routing, instruction-following, authentication, and environment failures.
3. ReproduceReduce the failure to the smallest repeatable sequence that still triggers the behavior.
4. CompareTest the same workflow across sessions/configurations to determine whether the issue is persistent or intermittent.
5. ConvertTurn the failure into a repeatable regression test with an explicit pass/fail condition.
6. TrendTrack recurring failure classes over time so engineering teams can see patterns rather than isolated complaints.
The practical value:
I can often recognize within minutes when an agent is no longer behaving like the one that was successfully carrying the same technical workload earlier. My interest is not simply reporting that an answer was “bad.” It is identifying what changed, how the failure presents, what operational context triggers it, and how to make it reproducible enough to test.

Relevant Technical Background

What I Am Looking For

I am interested in speaking with a team responsible for agent reliability, model behavior, evaluation, model experience, support engineering, or regression analysis. I can provide real-world examples and demonstrate the failure-identification process live using technical workflows rather than synthetic test prompts.
